Cupcakes and Veggie Peelers

I had every intention of updating the site, today. The snow pretty much killed that for me, but I did put up a fight. Unfortunately, all of my pictures are blurred by snowfall. I have to take them all again, tomorrow. Thanks, snow!!

I knew I’d be changing a lot and otherwise working, so I dressed comfortably. Bad move. When you wear something comfortable, it’s completely unmotivating. I get much more done when I’m dressed up, because I’m not as inclined to laze about. So, I think I might include this dress in the next update – which, if the snow will calm itself, will be up tomorrow night.

Outfit details:
vintage beret – from my mom’s store
flannel dress – reconstructed from a long nightgown
vintage slip (kind of visible due to the wind, oops) – from my mom
tights – target
shoes – payless

Today was the first day with my new intern, Catherine. Since she doesn’t have a great deal of sewing experience, I showed her how to thread and work the overlock machine, and had her practice straight seams and banded sleeves, with knits. Luckily for me, she’s a quick learner and rather patient. We also took ate cupcakes, took pictures and started a blog for her internship progress. I’ll link to it, once she starts updating. In the meantime, here are a few pictures that I took:

Catherine, in a snow covered Postlapsaria dress.

Threading the machine, which can be quite a pain your first few times.

Success!

Since I mentioned cupcakes, earlier…do you know how hard it is to resist a funfetti cupcake? Bobby has a severe sweet tooth and constantly has baked goods or chocolate around. Usually my willpower is pretty good, but I have been slipping! I don’t know who could resist funfetti cupcakes, especially with pink icing and heart sprinkles. I really shouldn’t let him bring that stuff into the house anymore.

p.s. It was rather sad and strangely ironic to hear of Joe Ades’ passing, today. I was typing up a blog post about him the other day, but never got around to posting it. It was just a silly musing about his amazing peelers and how I wanted to buy one for everyone I knew. For those of you who don’t know of Joe Ades, he was a salesman in New York, who sold the best peelers ever, for $5 a piece. It wasn’t the peelers, though, it was the man that intrigued everyone. I guess I’ll never get a chance to buy his peelers for everyone, but I’m sure glad I was able to have a conversation or two with him. He was my favorite New York fixture and it won’t be the same without his carrot peels and custom suits. See a video of him here. Rest in peace, Joe.
