Helena, Lauren, and I took a quick trip to Santa Fe, for a change of pace and scenery. Both were such a welcome difference from NYC, which is at the height of the get-me-out-of-here meter in early February. It’s cold in Santa Fe — even colder than it was in the city — but those bright blue skies and stunning views were just what I needed. It isn’t the cold that gets me down (well, maybe it is, a little), but that doom and gloom grayish blue cast across the city makes me want to hole up and hibernate. With scenery like New Mexico’s, we were out in the car and exploring, every chance we had. Santa Fe was incredibly charming and we had some really enjoyable meals (thanks for the recommendations!), but my favorite moments were out on the road, up in the mountains, and sitting on the dock of the Abiquiu Reservoir. I love a good road trip, and this made me realize how much of the US I still haven’t seen…and how different its beauty can be. I definitely have a new understanding of Georgia O’Keeffe’s fondness for New Mexico. I was quite taken by her, myself. But photographs don’t do any justice, and I’ve never been much of a painter.
