urban decay vice lipstick swatches

Buying lipsticks can be a tricky feat, especially when shopping online. I often search for swatches before buying, but it’s rarely an accurate preview of what it will look like on me. Which, of course, means that what it looks like on me is not necessarily what it will look like on any of you. We all have different skin tones and features, and so I decided to start demonstrating swatches on various people. To start our hopefully regular series, we had six readers visit our Brooklyn Brigade studio with photographer Michelle McSwain, to test out six of the new Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks. They’re launching on June 5th and will be available at Urban Decay, Sephora, Nordstrom, Ulta, Beauty.com, and Macy’s, with be 100 shades in six finishes (plus 20 Sephora exclusives) – which is quite an overwhelming amount of lipsticks to choose from! Most of our well-loved favorites are returning (whew!), with a whole lot of brand new additions. Once I have more of them in my possession, I’ll update with additional swatches. For now, here are six of the upcoming shades on six different ladies with different skin tones and features: Daisy, Folu, Sherry , Rosanna , Esther, and Sam. I hope to include more people in the future, so we have an even bigger variation – so please let me know what you’d like to see swatched, next! Click through to see the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick swatches, and make sure to click on the pictures to see the larger version.

  1. This is such a great idea- it’s so incredible how different one shade can look on different people! Thanks for showcasing and celebrating diversity! For future posts, it may be helpful to show what the ladies look like without the product on as well.

  2. I have a few people I always check in with when looking at swatches. People who’s swatches are always beautiful, and those who are close to my skin tone. But I like having this all in one place using all the same editing! Makes it easier to see the difference when all in the same lighting. Love the look of Tampered a lot, but still not convinced if it will fit my skin tone as well as I want it to.

  3. Wow! this was such a fun experience being able to participate in this project, meeting new people and playing with makeup. It’s amazing how different every single shade of lipstick looked on all the girls. Thank you again for including me and it was especially nice to meet you again Keiko :).

Looking forward to your next workshop at the Brooklyn Brigade…such a COOL! space.

  4. What a genius idea, Keiko! I loved seeing the variety of skin tones here and how the lipstick looks totally different on each gal! All of the shades look amazing so I can’t wait for this release! How will I ever choose though?!

  5. This is so cool! Very innovative and extremely helpful to your readers! Thanks so much!! I really do appreciate that. Only 1 of the colours that i am interested in was swatched here – but i just love the idea of showing !the colour on a variety of skin tones! ! Kudos to you!
