For The Love of MoviePass

Hi everyone, I’m Keiko’s friend Holly! I’ve been pestering Keiko (and all my friends for months) to sign up for MoviePass so she asked me to write a post about why I love it so much. This is not sponsored, I’m just genuinely very excited about this service.

If you haven’t heard of MoviePass, it is my newest obsession. I’ve always loved going to the movies, but the price of movie tickets plus any snacks or drinks can add up very quickly! Because of the cost, I was only going to the movies a couple times a year. Then came MoviePass…

With MoviePass you can see up to one movie every single day for only a membership fee of $10/month! In New York, a movie can be $16, so if you even go to one movie you’re already saving $6! My favorite thing about MoviePass is that it includes luxury theater experiences like Alamo Drafthouse and Nitehawk! A few of the movies I’ve been able to see with MoviePass are The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Thor: Ragnarok, Justice League, I, Tonya and Star Wars!

Do you think this is too good to be true? There are a couple catches: you can only use it to buy day of movie tickets, they manage that by making you check in to the movie theater’s location in order to purchase your ticket. However, I have gone to the theater earlier in the day to purchase my ticket for an evening movie. I haven’t tried this, but it may also work if you purchase tickets in person a few days ahead of time. It also doesn’t include 3D or IMAX movies.

Despite the few catches, I still think this membership is well worth it! Here are a few more reasons why I love MoviePass and think it’s worth the money:

  • It encourages me to see movies I’m interested in that I normally wouldn’t pay to go see in theaters.
  • It’s a budget friendly way to go out and have fun. I’ve gone to multiple movie dates with friends using my MoviePass.
  • I love going to the movies alone and this is perfect for anyone who does that as well! I usually buy day of tickets when I go by myself, and this makes it really affordable.
  • You can spend the money you usually would on tickets on popcorn!

What movies are you excited about right now?

PS- If your city has an Alamo Drafthouse, I highly recommend seeing a movie there! My love of Alamo could take up a whole other post.
