Green Beauty Essentials Schmidt's Deodarant

Schmidt’s Bergamot + Lime natural deodorant, Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 Hemp Peppermint Pure-Castile Soap

I’m not going to pretend I’m an all-natural beauty kinda gal, but I know that a lot of you are — or maybe you’re moving more in that direction. Surveys have shown that our generation wants cleaner, greener beauty products and luckily for you, brands and stores are taking notice. Though some people are pushing back at green going mainstream, I think it’s great that it’s becoming more widely available and at more affordable prices. For instance, my mom and I both wear natural deodorants (she prefers Toms, I use Schmidts). That’s one thing I am committed to, since my sweat glands are all but non-functioning (sounds great but it’s not cute), and I get scary infections if I wear anti-perspirants, since I have to sweat the tiny bit that I can. I got that from my mom. The fact that we can both buy our natural deodorants at Walmart is super convenient — especially for my mom, who doesn’t really shop online and certainly isn’t tracking down specialty stores. And overall, healthier options at big box stores? That’s a step in the right direction for everyone. Walmart now carries lots of green beauty options, making it that much easier to shop green. Here are some other favorites:

  • Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap is a longtime favorite; you will never see my shower without it. I have been buying it since college, and yes, I have read that novel of a label several times during a long bath. It’s my absolute favorite. The tingly peppermint makes me feel so clean and refreshed.
  • Burt’s Bees blush, and Burt’s Bees original beeswax lip balm: I have been using Burt’s Bees forever. There’s a tube of some sort of lip balm in every coat pocket, drawer, purse, and hidden in random spots along the way. Many of those are Burt’s Bees. Honestly, it’s my absolute favorite. Clearly I’m into the minty tingle — there is a theme here. I also happen to be a fan of many of their beauty products, but my favorite is definitely the blush. It’s beautifully pigmented and blends easily, and I like to start sheer and build it up with a stippling brush.
  • EcoTools brushes: You can’t beat the prices of these brushes, but what’s better is that they’re really great brushes. They’re so soft and blend really well, and they come in this cute, aqua brush caddy. I tried a ton of their brushes at a press event last summer and was sold. Try them out and see what you think!
