I could tell when she kissed me, she knew how to give a kiss.

You can see little Miku’s ears in the bottom corner. She is my constant companion.

This one is for my mom. She cringes when she sees bad posture (I have horrible posture, especially when I laugh; I need to work on that). I like to give her a hard time.

MAC Russian Red…this lipstick never quits.

The first time I wore these shorts, I got a lot of negative feedback. Don’t worry, I am not expecting anything different this time around. I understand that they are not for everyone, but after much consideration I have decided that they are staying in my closet. I completely respect your opinions, but sometimes I just have to stand by my own taste, you know? I will probably look back on this and think, “they were totally right, these are horrible.” Right now, however, I think they’re fun. I consider my clothing choices little booster shots of varying emotions. Cheerful colors make me happy, soft colors make me feel romantic, so on and so forth. On this particular day, I was in major need of a pick-me-up, so I put on the brightest of reds. Naturally, I made sure my lips matched.

Outfit Details:
red beret – from a cute little lady who used to sell her handmade hats at the flea market…for 50 cents and $1!
vintage sweater – thrifted
navy top – forever 21
navy belt – thrifted
vintage shorts – Jet Rag, Los Angeles
tights – H&M
shoes – Calvin Klein, from Beacon’s Closet
Miku – she slid down a rainbow that originated in Candy Land
lipstick – MAC Russian Red (I didn’t have to reapply all day. This is serious stuff.)

Love love,
Keiko Lynn

p.s. I regret that my beret is not a raspberry hue, but I gave that one away to a lovely model well over a year ago. Rest assured, I will find another one and I will listen to Prince every single time I wear it. I’m actually listening to that song right now, hence the title. Where have all the raspberry women gone?

  1. When I first saw this: BAM of color! I love it! It's a primary color, almost-schoolgirl explosion, and I think that this outfit is even picking me up, haha.

I actually really dig those shorts, so at least you have one supporter here. I think they're just so unusual in a good way, and you used them in this outfit so well. ๐Ÿ˜€

PS: I have bad posture too. Need to work on that.

  2. how could you ever have gotten anything negative about these shorts…absolutely gorgeous! and the colors are stunning!

  3. I can't believe you got negative feedback on those shorts! They might not seem appealing to me if I saw them on the hanger, but I think the way you styled them makes it really cute! I love that little hat too. I really want a red hat!

  4. I swore a little when I saw your shoes. THEY ARE MARVELOUS.

IF someone is awful enough to insult your shorts just think there is me and 15 of my friends on Google RSS yaking about how much we all have girl crushes on you.

  5. Love the shorts, love the lipstick hue, and looove the beret! I'd love to score a flea market find that sweet. ๐Ÿ™‚

You probably get this a lot, but I just think your makeup looks amazing. You could easily be a makeup artist. I'd love to look that flawless in my photos!

  6. You look like the mascot for some kind of British cookie. This, you guys. This is how fashion bloggers should always dress. It's adorable, gutsy, eclectic, quirky, and flattering. 100% style, 100% adorable, and the big smile with the red lipstick? You look like a movie star!

  7. what? negative feedback on those shorts? you're just ahead of the style curve ๐Ÿ˜‰ i actually really love them. i'd wear them in an instant.
oh, and, do you ever get bored of being insanely beautiful???

  8. WHAT? Negative comments? These colors are fantastical- and those shorts are amazing! If I had those elements in my closet I would absolutely rock it, hands down, immediately (though the red lips would not work as well on my thin little bird lips, haha).

You look amazing – like straight off the runway.

To heck with the naysayers, I'm glad you stuck with your gut!

  9. Hillary, Rosa and Sadie: Thank you! They're definitely not for everyone…some of my friends aren't crazy about them either, but I do like them and I'm glad you feel the same:)

Erin: Thank you! I love playing with makeup but sadly, I'm not good at doing anyone else's makeup. It's weird!

  10. I saw you on lookbook and now you're my inspiration. Your look, your love of bows, vintage, and bright colors, your personality and designing/creating abilities are absolutely wonderful. You're the kind of person who should have a book. Can't wait to see what you bring out next!

(There should be more people like you in this world! Full of sunshine through clothes <3)

  11. I wear a green beret pretty religiously and everytime I'm around my dad he sings the ultimate prince song. I need a rasberry beret epicly bad. I love the outfit, even the shorts!

  12. I happen to like the shorts, its not so much the shorts themselves, but how you wear them.
And plaid just plain rocks, so I love it!

    P.S. That lipstick is AWESOME!

  13. Really??? I love the shorts. And they fit you perfectly. I may cringe at plaid later (along with the people who are cringing about plaid right now), but I would say that this particular plaid print is plaid at its very best.

  14. I've never commented before on any of your outfits (although most are very cute) but this one! So good! I, like many other commenters, am very jealous of those shoes. Such bright, pretty colors for blah winter ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Love the outfit, Keiko! You're looking especially adorable in these photos. Mostly, I just want to commend you on how sweetly you addressed the criticism (however much I disagree with their assessment!) of the shorts. Classy, lady! ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. First time I've seen the shorts and they're awesome! I must be the 50th person to say that your figure is really shown off in these photos, I hope you ended up feeling really good at the end of that day!

  17. I like the shorts cause they match perfectly with the rest. The colors are awesome! *__*
I wish I dared to wear more colorful clothes but I'm rather the mousy person cause I'm not able to combine colors right ๐Ÿ™

  18. Beautiful outfit! I like everyting about it, especially the shorts! Well, they are very bright and I'm sure they would look horrible on their own BUT they look perfect with your navy tights, belt and top! Plus all the red – fantastic!
AND your shoes are gorgeous, remind me of the clogs which appear everywhere now – but not that ugly ๐Ÿ˜€

  19. I love this outfit(especially the shorts). And the lipstick!

People always try to tell me you can't wear bright lipstick with a bright outfit, but obviously you can. I'm going to buy myself some of that stuff!

Pish-posh to negative feedback, that's what I say. My boyfriend, wonderful as he is, just tells me that my black silk shorts over tights are "not his favorite" whenever I wear them. But I think they're growing on him.
The shorts are adorable. So is the kitty.

  21. How did you get negative feedback on those shorts?! They are fabulous! I guess I did rock a pair (or so I thought) of vintage high waist orange velvet shorts on my blog a while back, and I did receive some flack. I think these look fantastic on you…definitely a keeper!

  22. i absolutely love the shorts! who cares what others think? i constantly get weird looks for some of my choices but i enjoy them ๐Ÿ™‚ also i really love the lipstick, i am constantly looking for the perfect shade of red.

  23. What's funny is that before I scrolled down and read that people didn't like your shorts, I thought that maybe you had made them and I was like, make me a pair! I love shorts like these- louder bottoms (and I don't even think they're that loud) are more fun anyway! You look fabulous!

  24. I don't care what anyone else has ever said about those shorts, because I was just about to tell you that this is one of my favorite outfits I have seen on you!

Also, Russian Red will be buried with me. I will wear it at my wedding. Possibly one of the best lip sticks ever. The only slight biff I have with it is that it can be ever so slightly too matte and needs a bit of vaseline to add some moisture to it.

  25. You sure are fearless with the colors. I know this might sound silly, but I feel like since I have red hair it's harder to get away with bright things.

Or, maybe it is just not my style. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am a fashion blog n00b (JUST finished my first post!) and am trying to find footing in this giant fashion world. Stop by if you can!:

  26. Hey cake-oh, which by the way is one of the funniest play on words I've heard for a long time! I also want to applaud you on your very cute blog! But the reason to why i'm commenting are, what song is the lyric-line from? I have been thinking about it all day long but i couldn't recall, so please help me?
