Makeup Monday: Pretty in Pink

Back when I used to wear lots of eye makeup on a daily basis, this (along with smokey eyes) was my go-to look. The products always varied, but the outcome was simple: pretty, pink, princessy. “Princessy” is also how I describe Miku, so you can see why I would like this. Continue reading after the jump, to see all of the details of this look.

Eye products visual: Benefit Bad Gal Lash, MAC sushi flower eyeshadow (bottom left of quad), MAC Bare Study Paint Pot (I accidentally labeled it as bare canvas paint, but this is what I used), Urban Decay Hotpants eyeshadow, Make-up Designory Opal Sky eyeshadow (courtesy of make-up designory), MAC blacktrack fluidline. Brushes (top to bottom) MAC eyeshadow brush (for all over the lid), MAC crease brush, Sonia Kashuk blending brush, Sonia Kashuk bent angled brush (for fluidline).

I always start with the eyes, so I can clean up any fallout from the shadows afterward and not worry about it ruining the rest of my makeup. If for some reason I do my eyes after everything else, I dust on some loose powder, in excess, underneath my eyes, so I can dust it all off when I’m done. The formula for this look is very simple:
  • apply your base
  • shimmery light pink  all over the lids, up to the crease
  • vibrant pink in the outer crease (“pack” it into your crease instead of swiping the color, then blend outward – it leaves more pigment)
  • iridescent white shadow on inner corners and on brow bone
  • blend, blend, blend
  • liner and mascara

Lip products: Purple Lab Huge Lips Skinny Hips in Worship Kate (courtsey of Purple Lab NYC), Make-up Designory Opal Sky eyeshadow (for center of lips)

The lipsticks I always paired this with have since been discontinued (story of my life). Luckily, Karen of Purple Lab NYC sent me a new lip gloss to try out.  Honestly, I was nervous to try it since it’s a lip plumper, which I’m usually allergic to. I’m also not much of a gloss person. However, I actually really like this. I’ve used it two days in a row and haven’t had a reaction (yay!) and it smells lovely. Does it make my lips fuller? I’m not sure. I didn’t notice a difference – but to be fair, I wasn’t looking for it. I just like the subtle color and that its consistency is thick and not too slick (which equals staying power). To give my lips a little dimension, I dabbed on the same iridescent eyeshadow I used on my eyes, and blended it into the gloss in the center of my bottom lip.
I left out the details of my normal face makeup, since it gets a bit redundant. A crucial component to this look is blush. The shimmery eyes and glossy lips are brought together with flushed cheeks. Without them, your look risks falling flat. Stick to a subtle pink or rose and dust it on the apples of your cheeks – blend, blend, blend! To find the apples of your cheeks, just smile!
Love love,
Keiko Lynn

p.s. Sorry for the lack of full-front photos…I have a gross scab on the right side of my face that totally ruined this. I’m doing all of us a favor.
