Makeup Monday: Do Bad Things

True Blood is over for the season (booooo!), so I decided to pay tribute by doing my own vampy look, partially inspired by Pam, but also by the ubiquitous promotional image. I love a good statement lip, but sometimes I like to break the rules and pair it with dark eyes. On a side note, are my lashes growing yet? I’ve been using NeuLash for a few weeks now, but I can’t tell if it’s working or if I’m just making myself believe it is. That whole placebo thing gets me every time. /tangent

For the photo above, I used MAC Pro Longwear in Alta Moda, with a coat of the Mirror Gloss (it’s sparkly and comes with the pro longwear). For the video, I switched it up and used a lipstick. Everything I used is mentioned in this horribly awkward video, so please check it out! Proceed with caution…I’m not meant for video!

Love love,
Keiko Lynn

  1. I've been reading your blogs on and off since LJ and it was cool to see you on video! Haha. I was wondering, you've probably already talked about it, but what do you do now? I know you did make clothes before, but I've noticed designers seem to gift you things a lot and I was wondering if you're a stylist now or something?
Anyway, love the video, I'm trying to get more into makeup, I'm not so great at it!

  2. Not meant for video? I loved it! So great to get some tips from someone REAL, you're so easy to watch and that look is amazing on you. Thanks for sharing your secrets with us!

  3. Thanks for the great tutorial.
Your lips are ultimate perfection. πŸ™‚
xx, Alice from bells and whistles.
Ps: Feel free to check out my Blog. I would be honoured. πŸ˜‰

  4. this look is gorgeous on you! that lipcolor is so pretty….its always fun to do makeup looks that are different from the ones you normally wear, like playing dress up πŸ™‚

  5. as usual, awesome post. i loved the video, but i did miss your annotated make up photos. they're such an original way of doing a 'tutorial'. even though i've heard your voice before, it still surprises me. that is totally not how i'd ever imagined you'd sound.

  6. Great tutorial! The make-up looks fabulous and I'm tempted to try that look some time. Though I'm afraid that the look would be to dark on me.
It's also so nice to hear you speak – I like your voice!

  7. Thank you so much for this post!! I'm so bad at applying makeup and always end up looking like a drag queen he he πŸ˜‰ I think I'm going to try it out tomorrow!

Oohh your lashes do look longer πŸ™‚ (not that they needed lengthening though!) xxx

  8. keyko i love when you post videos! it's as if i could get to know you a lil bit more! i think you're the coolest blogger by far! and so beautiful! you inspire me everyday!

  9. great tutorial! I am so bad at getting a perfect lip- it tends to bleed just enough where it never comes out the way your lipstick application does. I'm going to try out the lip brushes for darker colors and see if that works for me too.

thanks for this! by the way- the mirror problem is because in iMovie (guessing that's what you're using) it's showing you the finalized product in real time, which is as if someone is standing in front of you (mirrored image). if you want to see it without it being mirrored, use photo booth. it doesn't matter for the internet, but if you want your visitors to be able to read stuff, you'll have to figure out how to mirror the video later (if you have a program for that).

  10. Melinda,

I still make clothing! Postlapsaria is my main source of income. I just don't sell quite as much online anymore; I've been focusing on wholesale and custom orders. Hoping that will change for the holidays:)

  11. First of all, I love "True Blood." I tell everyone it's "girl porn." LOL :X

Secondly, you are totally meant for video! You would make a great makeup guru, so I hope you continue to do these!

  12. I actually read somewhere that people with dark hair and fair skin can wear bold eye make-up and a bold lip color. So, since I love that look and have fair skin… I chose to believe it. πŸ˜€

I even dyed my hair a couple shades darker so my favorite style of make up would look better on me. πŸ˜€

  13. Looove dark lip colours, they can be so challenging but it's so worth it. Do you think it's OK to just wear lipliner (all over, not just a line…haha) without lipstick over it?

  14. 1. Love True Blood.
    2. So when you determine if neu lash is worth it – will you post something about it? I have short eyelashes and I want them to be long and girly (think human-form of Snuffaluffagus). I tried Latisse and it irritated my eyelids too much. I tried a bamboo one and that didn't work very well either. I am currently trying one you can get a walgreens (maybeline? rimmel? something??), which said some ridiculous statistic like 90% of users saw a difference in length and volume month, and apparently I am in the 10%!

I don't want to get extensions (again) because they are expensive and kind of a pain in the butt…

  15. Thanks so much for posting the video! As a novice to applying make-up, it's really nice to see someone who knows what they're doing actually show how to apply. Even seeing the way you use your brushes is educational for me; much more help than photos alone. I'm wondering for a future make-up Monday if you could talk about the type of foundations and bases. For instance, in this video you mentioned you were wearing Smashbox Photo Finish and MAC Mineralized Skin Finish. I'd love to know what those are and why you wear them; so, I guess a post focusing on the basics. Thanks and keep it up. Annie.
