One of our favorite summer destinations (within the city) is Governor’s Island, so while Roxy Mae was visiting, we made sure to take her there. It used to be open only on the weekends, but it’s open every day, this summer. Since we went on a weekday, it felt like we had the island to ourselves. We packed a picnic, rode the ferry to the island, and then rented a surrey, once we were there. We usually ride bikes – you can even bring your own, on the ferry – but the surrey was a lot of fun for us! If you’re in NYC, make sure to take advantage of the island. The ferry ride is usually free (and at most, $2), and it feels like such a great departure from the city.
