Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick Swatches

I got my hands on 25 of the 30 new Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipsticks, so I decided to do some swatches for you. I was really, really excited when I heard they were launching liquid lipsticks (in both comfort matte and metallized finishes), and had pretty high hopes. They are a little hit and miss, with some of them being a little streaky while others are evenly pigmented. I had a harder time with the darker shades and a few of the metallized, which require a little more finesse than I was willing to endure (given that I was swatching 25 shades!) or perhaps another coat to make the color even. But then you might run into that icky thick feeling, so just keep that in mind — and know that some of them take quite awhile to dry. For me, the hits were mostly in the pinks and rosy shades. My favorites (in terms of shade and finish) were Backtalk, Firebird, Naked, Rapture, ZZ, and Amulet. Crimsons is also a stunning shade of red, but I need to give it another go when I’m not pushing my sensitive lips to the absolute limit. It was one of the last ones I tried, and it felt a little thick but that may also be because I was on 24 of 25.

My advice to you is that if you love a color but are unsure of this formula’s results, check out its lipstick counterpart (most are available in lipstick form). But that’s not to say that I want to dissuade you from trying these out; there are several that I can see myself wearing frequently, like the favorites I mentioned above. I just don’t need to wear 714 in liquid form when the lipstick version is heaven sent, you know what I mean?

Which of the Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick swatches are your favorites? Have you tried any, or are you planning on picking any up? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

    • They’re definitely not all bad but with so many great liquid lipstick formulas out there, these do need more work. They’ve reformulated products before, so maybe with some tweaking they can make a better formula in the future! In the meantime, there are a handful that I’m keeping in my arsenal:)

  1. What do you use on your lips to remove the color? Do you put anything on your lips in-between each swatch to soothe? I have the hardest time keeping my lips looking fresh and smooth when switching colors when some of them are matte.

    • I usually use a cleansing oil, but for these I used The Balm “Balms Away” which is technically labeled as an eye makeup remover but worked in a pinch, since I was at the studio and it’s all I had. It’s moisturizing and requires no scrubbing, but I also applied lip balm between swatches.

    • The lipsticks are great – I would definitely start with those. They have 100 shades to choose from and many different finishes. Tilt is one of my favorite lipsticks from them, so I’ll stick to the lipstick version.

  2. Ooh, Rapture looks like the ideal rose pink! I need lip color that I don’t need to re-apply through the day (babies have very little patience for mama’s makeup touch-ups), so I’ve been looking at liquid lipsticks for their stay-on power. I think I’m gonna have to put some of these on the list!
