10 Facts About Me

Oui Fresh Daisy Sunnies, vintage dress

It’s been awhile since we’ve gotten personal around here, so I wanted to start the conversation with a 10 Facts About Me post. But here’s the main thing: I want to know about you all, too. So please introduce yourself in the comments and let me know some random facts about yourself! The thing I’ve been loving about the stories feature on instagram  is how it opens up a conversation and feels more like an interactive community. I miss that aspect of blogging, and I want to bring it back. I have so enjoyed getting your input on things, swapping tips, and just chatting about everyday life with one another. So please join me on instagram, check out my stories, and know that if you ask me a question, I’ll answer back. In the meantime, for those of you who are new to the blog or just want to know more about me, here are 10 facts about me:

  1. My name (Keiko) is pronounced Cake-oh, but I’m so used to people calling me Keeko, I don’t even correct them. Also, Lynn is my middle name — a lot of people [understandably] assume it’s my last name.
  2. I live in Brooklyn with Bobby, my boyfriend of ten years, our dog Miku, and our cats Lacy, Vester, and Kitty Boos. All were adopted. We recently started fostering a senior dog named Coco, but since finding out she has an inoperable tumor, we have decided to keep her in our family for the rest of her days, under Foster Dogs NYC’s Fospice program.
  3. I grew up with horses. My first three were my world. They’ve all passed away, and I still have a hard time talking about them without getting emotional. I now have one horse named Romeo that I share with my sister Amanda. He lives in Florida near my family, and I’m so glad my niece and nephew are getting to grow up around horses!
  4. I have 11 tattoos: some big, some small. One of them is of my pup Miku, and I have my first three horses on my torso. Should I do an updated tattoos post? I’ve gotten several new ones since the last post!
  5. If I could meet any celebrities, it would be Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen. I would probably cry.
  6. I love mixing vintage with new pieces, but I will always choose a vintage shop or flea market over any modern store.
  7. I usually fall in love with characters, not the actors themselves. For instance, I don’t even remember the name of the guy who plays Tristan in “Stardust” (edit: I just looked it up and his name is Charlie Cox) but I fell head over heels with him when I first saw that movie. Do you think I have a chance with him? 😉
  8. Even after all these years, I still get really nervous in front of a camera. For that reason, I take most of my own photographs.
  9. I started my first “blog” at 15 — it’s in quotations because it was called “Open Diary” —  then moved over to LiveJournal when I was 18. I’ve had this current blog since 2008, I think! I’ve been blogging in some capacity for over half my life.
  10. I start an embarrassing amount of sentences with one of the following: “I was watching this episode of Real Housewives…” (guilty pleasure)  or “I was listening to this podcast about…” (not so guilty pleasure).

So, those are my 10 quick facts — now tell me about you!

  1. Marta Soares says:

    Hi Keiko!
I’m Marta Soares and I’m a portuguese fan, so sorry if my english is terrible. I’m 20 years old and I’ve been reading your blog for 5 years now, since it popped up on Pinterest. I come read it ever since. I love fashion, makeup, beauty, animals and tattoos, so your blog is just perfect 🙂 Keep up the good work!
    Love from Portugal

  2. Liz says:

OMG my first blog was on Teen Open Diary! Did you ever dabble on that one? I remember it was a thing to claim a celebrity persona on there. I think I was Laura Prepon once haha. Thinking back on it now I’m like, HOW WEIRD IS THAT?! But it was totally *normal* in that blogging community back then. I’m also super sad you’re on the complete opposite coast and we can’t hang out because I feel like we’d totally get along as IRL pals. Le sigh!

    • Keiko Lynn says:

I never had Teen Open Diary! Mine was Open Diary and then it switched to Free Open Diary, because I couldn’t pay once it became a paid site. But I remember those communities with personas. They had some of them on LiveJournal, too — roleplaying communities. It was weird because several had me and Bobby as people you could claim, and people would write fantasies about us getting together and being a couple. hahaha! We were just best friends, back then. Their stories came true.

p.s. I feel the same way! I feel like I know you even though we haven’t met. When is that baby coming out?!

      • Liz says:

Haaaaa wow @ people imitating you and Bobby! That is cray. But yeah, the prophecy came true haha.

Well, my due date is Sept. 16th but according to my ultrasound he’s a little fatso and measuring two weeks ahead so I’m hoping he comes out a little early otherwise it’s RIP to my vagina hahaha.

  3. Briel K. says:

    I love posts like this!

So sorry to hear about Coco’s tumor but I’m glad she will be with you guys for the rest of her time. I had a feeling it would end up like that (that you would keep her, not about the tumor).

I have two cats named Sebastian and Oz. Oz is named after a character from Buffy and I just liked the name Sebastian (and no Buffy names fit him). I rescued them 6 years ago when they were only 4 weeks old and living outside my apartment building. <3

I've never owned my own horse but I rode from when I was 13 through my mid 20's. I'd like to get into it again (I'm 38 now) but just have to come up with the money. It can be an expensive hobby, even if I only take lessons!

I would love a tattoo post! I don't have any tattoos of my own but yours are so beautifully done I'd love to see them all.

I started my LJ in 2002! I still have it but I only use it to keep track of books I read, which I guess I could do on Goodreads. I used to post about everything though (like way too much info that people didn't need to know!)

I start a lot of sentences with "This girl whose blog I read…" LOL

    • Keiko Lynn says:

Thank you! We’re taking Coco for a quick checkup at Miku’s vet, since Miku is due to have her thyroid levels rechecked. At the moment, she seems to be doing well considering the circumstances. I just hope she stays with us as long as possible, so we can give her a great life.

Having horses is incredibly expensive. Did you lease? I actually lease my horse Romeo to a girl who comes out and rides him a couple times a week. It’s great because it gives him the exercise and attention he needs when my sister is busy, and helps offset the costs. and it’s much more affordable for her, rather than paying for board, vet bills, feed, farrier, etc! Win/win!

And I love that you start your sentences like that…haha! <3

  4. Shar W. says:

    I love these!

    1) I live in Singapore
    2) My birth date (in dd/mm/yy & hh:mm format) is made up completely of 3 numbers, where my DOB is one number and 0, the time is the other number and 0, and the year are the two non-zero numbers.
    3) I have 2 cats, aged 10 and 8; they are my little loves.
    4) I passed my driving test on my first try, on, you guessed it, the date made up of the same numbers of my birth date and time.
    5) My surname makes me extremely identifiable,
    6) I was chosen to learn to play the flute (for 5 months) under my school’s Second Instrument Programme, though I never formally learned to play a first. It still remains one of the proudest moments of my life.
    7) I love spaghetti. When in a good mood, I can eat a whole pack in one sitting. And then regret my actions for the next 48 hours.
    8) I’ve fought depression for over 2 decades. It’s an uphill battle but I’m still here.
    9) Whiskey always gets me with just one sip. I hate whiskey.
    10) I am INCREDIBAD with mathematics.

    Hope you enjoyed it!

    • Keiko Lynn says:

The DOB and driving test dates…how neat! I bet those are your lucky numbers:) And as for #8, I can relate on a certain level — but the hardest thing about depression is how isolating it can be. Even those who have gone/are going through depression can never truly understand your personal experience. Hang in there — you’re in my thoughts<333

  5. Elle says:

Did you watch Daredevil on Netflix?! It features a very hunky Charlie Cox.

    • Keiko Lynn says:

I did! He was pretty hunky in that (and also in Boardwalk Empire) but the Tristan character was my faaaavorite. I just adored him.

  6. Elle says:

    Hi Keiko.

I live in Brooklyn too. I’ve lived in a few other places (and grew up in New Jersey) but lately people I meet often seem to assume I’m a native New Yorker, so I take it as a compliment! I guess I’ve been living here long enough that I seem New York-y in some ways.

Though my day job is Executive Assistant, my passion has always been acting and lately I am also getting into fiction-writing. Hoping to eventually write some things for publication and I’ve also been toying with the idea of some sort of one-person show (some other actors I know are doing that), but for right now, the fiction seems like a better idea.

No pets, but my mom used to have a golden retriever (and now has another dog) and sometimes I dream about having a golden.

I watch a lot of TV and now that I have Netflix I’m always getting into new shows. I started ‘GIRLBOSS’ recently and although I know it didn’t get renewed, I’ve been really enjoying watching the one season that they did make.

I’m a recent returnee to your blog – I lost a lot of my blog links when I switched computers a while ago and I was not always great about remembering to read blogs regularly, but I always liked yours, especially the makeup posts. Looking forward to reading your new posts and catching up on some of the old ones.

    • Keiko Lynn says:

Thank you so much! Always nice to “meet” a fellow Brooklynite. Also, I grew up with a golden retriever and he was the most wonderful dog. He was an angel.

  7. barbara says:

Even though I’ve been reading your blog probably since 2009ish, I still love these quick facts!
-There was a purple eyeshadow Adele makeup post that you did that I went back to YEARS later for inspiration – and now I can’t remember what the occasion even was! Haha.
-We also met once when you did a Coach event and I was in fangirl shock – but I did manage to introduce myself and get a pic with you 🙂
-And I’m on the waiting list for a tattoo from Amanda Wachob because of you, that I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to afford, but what a dream!
    Other facts about me:
-I didn’t grow up with cats but I have 2 now and I love them dearly. they’re both so calm and gentle, and even though my 11 month old son tortures them, they are so sweet with him!
-I’ve had several blogs and an etsy shop over the years and nothing has really stuck. i’ve also written for an online mag that folded. i love the side-hustle. i recently became a stylist with Stella & Dot. I just want to share things I love with my friends.
-i’m a runner. like, i really enjoy running. in different seasons of my life i’ve been able to commit to it with varying levels of intensity, but it’s the thing that makes me feel most like Wonder Woman – beautiful, strong, passionate.

Thanks for sharing all of your fashion, beauty, and slices of life over the years!

    • Keiko Lynn says:

I remember that Adele inspired post! And I hope you get to have your tattoo from Amanda. She’s wonderful.

Side hustles can be just as enjoyable. I’ve always said that you don’t have to make your passions into a career — sometimes they’re even more enjoyable as a hobby or a side job.

  8. Corina says:

    Ooh fun post. Let’s see…

    1) I’m Corina. Hi! I was on LJ too, In fact you were on my “friends” list. I LOVED the clothes you made. There were some great communities of people who sewed on there.

    2) I eventually turned my passion for sewing into a business & started my own label of reversible clothes for women. It’s been fun, always learning new things.

    3) I have 2 tattoos. One is a series of cat paw prints going up my side. The other is a map of Cuba.

    4) I didn’t learn to drive until I was 26. I grew up in a big city & never really needed to know also I had a bit of a phobia.

    5) I love old movies. Some of my favorite actresses are, Marlene Dietrich, Rita Hayworth & as cliche as it is Marilyn Monroe.

    6) I go by my middle name. My mom’s family always called me Corina but my dad always called me Lux (first name). I went by that online for a while, but when he passed away I decided that he would be the last person to call me that. well him & the government. lol

    7) I’m a language geek. I’ve studied Italian, German, Mandarin & Japanese. I know bits & pieces of each but I’m strongest in Italian. Also I grew up bilingual so I know some Spanish as well.

    8) If I could meet anyone alive or dead it would have to be Carl Sagan. I’ve read some of his books & he was truly an amazing human being.

    9) I spent a few years as an amateur pinup/fetish model. Mostly photos of feet but you’d be surprised how specific some fetishes can be. You also run into a lot of characters doing that type of work. I used to have a blog where I’d post my “adventures”. haha

    10) Super music fan. I’m into everything. I always hear people say things like: “I like all kinds of music, except _”. I actually do like all kinds. I’ll give anything a chance. Very open minded when it comes to that.

    So those are my 10!

    • Keiko Lynn says:

What is your clothing line called? I’d love to check it out.
p.s. #6 is so sweet. And #7 makes me ashamed that I only know English and ASL (and I’m rusty). And #8 makes me realize we would probably be best friends. And #9 makes me want to read your blog!!

      • Corina says:

I actually deactivated the blog. Things got a little uncomfortable when a client found me through there & learned a little bit too much information about me.

I’ve always wanted to learn ASL too! I know a few words but can’t put sentences together. That’s great that you know ASL. More people should!

My clothing line is called Geminae, I have a site at I put out my first collection earlier this year. It’s a slow growth but at least there’s growth. 🙂

        • Keiko Lynn says:

The grammar of ASL takes some getting used to, since it’s not in English order. But otherwise it’s mostly just practice and dexterity! I’m slow on translating, which is my main problem. I have to constantly ask Deaf people to slow down so I can understand them, and I used to be pretty fluent. If you’re not constantly practicing in the real world, you lose it:(

          • Corina says:

            That’s true with all languages.

  9. Daffny says:

I love this! This is so sweet! I think you’re adorable! xox

  10. Emma Callin says:

I’ve been reading your blog since you did a collaboration with Seychelles footwear and discovered that you have several items in your closet that I also own (thanks for the additional styling ideas)!
Hmm.. so fun facts about me:
    – I have two jobs, each for my different passions: ethical fashion (I run Studio Intent) and education (I also work in ESL studies).
    – I’m Canadian born to British Asian parents with a Chinese background on my mum’s side and a Peranakan background on my dad’s.
    – I currently live in Canada with my husband of 6+ years who is a foot taller than me (consequently I’ve heard every short joke known to humankind ever).

    • Keiko Lynn says:

Oh man, I bet you have! It’s so interesting that you are both in fashion and education. How do you have any free time?!

  11. Shannon says:

Loved getting to know you a little better! I’ve been following your blog circa 2012! I’m so sorry to hear the update about Coco, but I’m happy you’ll be able to fill her remaining days with love and affection.

    Some things about myself:
    1. I’m an identical twin
    2. I married my long time boyfriend, and my new name rhymes (Shannon Cannon)
    3. I’ve been obsessed with all animals my entire life. Right now I have a rescue cat (Luna) and would LOVE to adopt a dog, but our apartment is a little too small for that right now.
    4. I think thrift shopping is more fun than shopping at regular stores. It’s like treasure hunting!
    5. You can find me over at

    • Keiko Lynn says:

Thank you! We are really hoping she’ll have lots of time left…you never know. We’re just happy we can keep her comfortable.

I love that you have a rhyming name…I hope you married him at least PARTLY because of the rhyme factor;)

  12. Kirsten A. says:

    Hey, Keiko!
I thought I’d share some random facts about myself as well! My name is Kirsten (not Kristen!) and I’ve been following your blog for many years.

I live in Cleveland and work as a leather seamstress making mostly handbags for a company called Fount Leather (check us out if you want!).

I was born and grew up in Salerno, Italy until I was 7 before my family moved to the US. I’m in my mid twenties now so I’ve been here for a while 🙂

I have two dogs, a pit/boxer mix named Moose and a greyhound named Finn, and two cats, Tintin and Squid.

89% of the time, you can catch me listening to podcasts, usually true crime related, or watching true crime tv shows and was so happy to find out you were a fellow Murderino 😉

I love dessert more than most things in the world and I have to stop to get donuts before almost any dinner I go to.

I run a small vintage shop on Etsy with my friend.. mostly so I have an excuse to buy all the cool clothes that don’t fit me and find them good homes.

I have been so lucky to be constantly surrounded by truly inspiring people every day of my life especially at work and within my family.

I have been a big supporter of your blog for the past 5 years and continue to feel inspired by the content you put out. Your posts are always honest and thought provoking and I think you are a truly amazing lady!

Keep doing what you’re doing cause I’d be lost in the blogosphere without you!!

    Much love,
    Kirsten A.

  13. Madison says:

Loved reading this:) So my middle name is Lynn too! I have the same amount of animals as you (minus one dog) and I too fall in love with characters. I think I probably like taking my own blog photos for the same reason you do….I get nervous when other people are in front of the camera.

    • Keiko Lynn says:

You’d think we’d get used to it, but I doubt I ever will. I get so slouchy and twitchy when people are taking my photo!

  14. Staci says:

I love your Oui Fresh sunnies! I need to get the yellow daisy sunnies, too. What podcasts do you listen to? I love comedy podcasts and spooky podcasts, but I’m always looking for others that I may have missed.

  15. Kelly says:

Thank you for sharing – love that you’re a fellow animal lover. How kind of you to love and care for Coco for her remaining days! I too, love animals and have a rescue dog, Riley. My husband and I would have more if we had a bigger space. We live in a little apartment in Southern Maine but our dream is to move to Vermont and live on many acres with a few more dogs, a cat, goats and chickens. I’m an abstract painter and also work in education. My guilty pleasures are old Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movies (Passport to Paris!) and reality TV. My not-so guilty pleasures are yoga, eating pizza for way too many meals and traveling as much as I can. I have anxiety and depression but each year brings new perspective and new ways of living well with it.

    • Keiko Lynn says:

I relate to your last sentence SO much. It’s an ever evolving process. <3

    • Briel K. says:

Gotta love those old MK&A movies! I still have a few of them on VHS! LOL

  16. Kiran says:

I start most of my sentences the same! I love your style and your dog Miku sounds like a treasure. I am sorry about all the animals you have lost, growing up around horses must have been amazing. Thank you for sharing, really enjoyed this and love that you have been blogging for so long. That must be why you are so good at it, have a great weekend Keiko (Cake-oh) xxx

    • Keiko Lynn says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who stars my sentences like that! <3

  17. Bry Jaimea says:

Do I get points for knowing how to pronounce your name correctly? But any Star Trek fan would (ok, now I’m giving away too much!).
Such a lovely post an thank you for sharing so much about yourself! I love personal posts where we get to know the person behind the glamour x

    • Keiko Lynn says:

Haha that’s totally true (re: Star Trek)! <3

  18. La Bijoux Bella | by mia says:

I ❤️ love this cute little get t know me post. It’s a great way to learn and cherished the best in others. I also love ❤️ Pairing vintage with moderne pieces. I love and adore horses ?, cat ? and dog ? too. I am very compassionate about animals, I cannot watch any movies that features any dogs that die, even though I know it’s not true, I still cannot cope with the concept. ?.
    Great post as always!

??LA BIJOUX BELLA ??| By Mia | A Creative Lifestyle Blog

    • Keiko Lynn says:

I have to fast forward through the parts where animals are killed, always! I think I’ve missed half of Game Of Thrones for that reason;)

  19. Natali says:

Great post, loved getting to know you better Keiko! It’s funny that I have a friend who has the same name as you and I totally pronounce it the right way, yay me! 😀 I did think that Lynn was your surname, cool to find out that it’s your middle name.
I never had horses, but for some reason, ever since I was a little kid, horses were so interesting and special to me. Nowadays I call them my spirit animal. 🙂

Also, just like you, I fall in love with the character itself when I’m watching some movie or TV series. Sometimes I get so much into that whole character and it’s story that I laugh at myself for taking something fictional at times so deep. 😀

    • Keiko Lynn says:

Yeah, it causes a lot of confusion with jobs. I’ve had many companies book my flights/hotels/appointments under “Ms. Lynn” 🙂
Horses are really amazing creatures. There’s something so special about them; I can’t imagine my life without them!
