Red has always been one of my favorite colors, especially when it comes to clothing and accessories — makeup included. It’s also my grandma’s favorite colors, but red always makes me think of my great grandpa Papa. He’s the one behind that anchor tattoo on my arm (the one that isn’t showing in these photos, naturally); it’s a matching tattoo to one he had on his own arm. His room was dark and red and velvet. Despite their long and happy marriage, he and my great grandma slept in separate rooms. He snored louder than anyone; she would grind her teeth. Maybe that was one of the secrets to their happy marriage. I know I never sleep better than when I’m alone in a hotel room.

Anyway, when I was a kid, I thought his room was much like a King’s, or what I (a young girl) would expect from a king. And Moe’s (my great grandma) was shades of blue and satin sheets, with an old fashioned telephone and Capodimonte lamps on her nightstand. It felt very royal to me.

When I think of my actual favorite color, I guess it would be some shade of blush — but I love all colors, and many for different reasons. Red reminds me of my Papa and makes me think of my grandma, blue reminds me of Moe and my mom, orange of Tessa. But when it comes to colors to wear, red tops the list. And I suppose that might just be the most long winded explanation as to why I love the color red, isn’t it?
