Happy 4th of July! We’ll be spending ours indoors, while Miku continues to recover from her surgery. She’s in great spirits and zooming around like a crazy girl, but I’m still keeping an eye on her leg while we wait for the biopsy results. I have to keep her in one of those donut collars to keep her from messing with the stitches, and I hate leaving her alone! In the past week, Bobby and I have only left the apartment together once, and I was a nervous wreck the entire 2.5 hours we were gone. Of course, we got back and her collar was still in place and she was just taking a nap. But still, I prefer one or both of us to be home with her, so I’ve spent lots of time indoors. Not the worst, since it’s so hot outside and Miku time is the best time.

These photos were taken prior to our Maine trip, when it was a lot less hectic than it will be today. For those who don’t know, Nathan’s has a hot dog eating contest every 4th of July at their original location in Coney Island (pictured above). That location has been open since 1916, and the contest has been going since the 70s. I’ve never attended one of the contests because I tend to avoid crazy crowds — I know, I know, I live in NYC and I don’t like crowds? — but Coney Island is a favorite summer destination for me. It’s weird, gritty, colorful, and fun. And it’s full of history. I love the old signs and the original fixtures, and I can’t turn down a chance to get a fresh squeezed lemonade (not from here — from a stand in the park) and ride The Wonder Wheel. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
