When I was little, there was no bigger treat than going to one of three stores: Disney, Claire’s, or Sanrio. Let’s be honest: minus Claire’s (which will always have a special place in my heart), I still can’t resist either of the others. When I went to Tokyo, I bought all of the Sanrio, Tokyo Disneyland, and also Rilakkuma goodies I could get my hands on. Little Twin Stars slippers, Hello Kitty fake eyelash holders (!! this one is very similar), novelty mirrors, plush dolls, a macaron Mickey pillow, clothing. I ended up buying an extra suitcase to bring it all home. I was in heaven.

This Furla x Hello Kitty Metropolis Mini Crossbody falls on the higher end of the spectrum; I think of it as my “grown up” Sanrio bag. A more refined version of the satin Pandapple tote I carried in college. Does anyone remember Pandapple? It was one of their least popular characters, whom I actually loved. It all started with Unico (gut-wrenching but oh so precious), and then Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars. In middle school I was all about Keroppi and Monkichi (especially since Tessa was a baby and we called her Monchichi), in high school I shifted back to Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars Kiki and Lala. And then Pandapple came along and I was so happy to have a cute lil panda, but no one else agreed. And of course, Gudetama and Aggretsuko are fantastic additions. Let’s be real: I just love them all.

There is really point to this other than to say: I love Sanrio and hooray for my Hello Kitty purse. Also, do you have a favorite character? Did you also watch Unico and as a result, lose all childish innocence and realize that the world is cruel and even tiny unicorns are lonely? Seriously, I was just thinking about how that probably wasn’t supposed to be a kids’ movie…so messed up.

p.s. If you’re a Sanrio lover like me, the official Sanrio store on Amazon has tons of goodies and Etsy has sellers that do surprise grab bags (and you know I love a grab bag).
