Disney Halloween Costume: Alice In Wonderland

“‘Drink Me’. Hmm, better look first. For if one drinks much from a bottle marked Poison, it’s almost certain to disagree with one sooner or later.”

Curiouser and curiouser! You all know how much I love Halloween — and anything Disney is my favorite — so I decided to recreate some of my favorite Disney princesses and leading ladies with the help of some talented friends and family. I’m kicking off the series with Alice (in the style of Disney’s animated movie, of course) as she navigates the curious quirks of Wonderland. Which one makes you taller and which one makes you smaller? It is such a tricky, delicate balance, isn’t it? I surely don’t remember this chair being quite so large. It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

For this look, I used a vintage dress I’ve had for years. I actually wore it in my last Alice in Wonderland costume eight years ago. This time, I took it up a notch with a blonde wig I picked up at a local shop and a distressed wallpaper background that turned out so lovely, I couldn’t bear to part with it. It’s currently sitting in storage, awaiting its next shoot. I’m a big fan of making costumes out of pre-existing items in my closet (dress, shoes, tights, headband!) and adding in affordable elements (apron, wig) to complete the look. I linked to some options below, if you want to get the look without buying a costume from a party shop. Alice in Wonderland might be the easiest Disney Halloween costume of the bunch, and the other characters would also make for a great group costume. Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum, Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Cat — the list goes on and on.

I can’t wait to share the rest of the series with you. Can you guess which Disney lady I’ll post next?

“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn’t be, and what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
