Shopping For Christmas Gifts

I really though I had my holiday shopping off to a great start, since I’ve been doing it since early last month — but then I realized I was mostly buying gifts for Winter Wishes…and a couple things for Tessa. Little by little, I’ve been checking people off my list. I’ve been perusing the gift guide sections, which I find very helpful (I guess I’m the target audience!) except there are a few people on my list that are slightly trickier to buy for and I’m still at a slight loss. I hate buying things just to buy things, and want to make sure everyone actually likes their presents. I can’t even write about what I’m getting for anyone for fear of them reading this, but I welcome any and all ideas.

If it were up to me, it would usually involve some sort of special experience. I’m 100% with Helena: I love experience gifts. Personally, they’re always my favorite — okay, second favorite* — because it gives me something to look forward to beyond the holidays, whether it’s a mini trip, a massage, a nice meal, or something unexpected. However, there are two people in my life (MOM. BOBBY.) who will sit on that gift certificate until it expires or they lose it.

Manhattan

A couple years ago, I bought Bobby two things I thought he would love: trapeze school for two (if you’ve ever driven along the West Side Highway in Manhattan, you’ve probably seen this) and a month of ClassPass, so he can try out any fitness classes his heart desires. Bobby is really into fitness and enjoys trying new things, so I was confident in these choices. Two years later, he still hasn’t used either and I’m pretty sure they’ve expired. So, consider that my donation, Trapeze School and ClassPass.

All that being said, I recently started a HelloFresh subscription, and it’s been a total hit. I have always wanted to try one of those cooking subscriptions but let’s be real, it’s always Bobby who does the cooking. I did a trial to see if Bobby would enjoy it and he loved it (I did, too).

It’s such an easy way to add variety into your weekly meals — there are so many options to choose from, and they’re all so quick and easy. I haven’t tried any of the other ones (Plated, Blue Apron, Purple Carrot, SunBasket, etc) but our experience with HelloFresh has been so great. Maybe I should’ve saved that for Christmas? Nah, it would’ve been more of a present to myself.

*Absolute favorite gifts: anything that has Miku’s face on it / anything for Miku.
