Comment below with outfit or location questions. ❤️ This video shows a teeny fraction of what we did in Tokyo— it just gave me a good excuse to show what outfits I packed. When in Tokyo, my favorite thing to do is pick a neighborhood and wander around. I start with one planned destination and go from there — and I have a google map of other possibilities in the area, in case I need a little more direction. I think this is one of the best ways to get to know a city, and I’ve found some of my favorite spots by stumbling upon them. But don’t get me wrong — I still hit some tourist highlights! I’m a tourist, after all. And Sanrio Puroland? 100% worth every minute (especially on a rainy day). That’s a Gudetama butt, just in case anyone was wondering. 🍳$

I was wondering what my niece and nephew went to see, when they wandered off the path. I was not surprised to see them taking photos of a cat they found. It runs in the family! 🐈‍⬛

In all seriousness, Fushimi Inari Taisha is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kyoto for good reason. Crowded or not — and I’ve experienced it both completely empty and at peak season — it is such a beautiful place that is 100% worth experiencing. There are roughly 10,000 torii gates leading up the path, with about 1,000 closely placed together to create the illusion of a tunnel. The more you walk up the long path, the less crowded it is. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes because it’s quite a long journey to the top! ⛩️

I don’t know why “Mother’s Day” and “brunch” are synonymous in my mind, but they are. Last year I hosted a more casual bagel board party (we had a lot of moms at my house!) and this year I wanted to step it up a notch with the table settings. Instead of going with a matching set, I picked out each unique, individual piece at @homegoods to get the exact look I wanted at a great price. Everything is a HomeGoods find: the linens, cookware, dishes, vases, Bobby’s oven mitts, and even the silicone mold for the flower-shaped butter! I made a dress out of bed sheets the day before my trip to Japan 🇯🇵 , and this is how it turned out! I wore it at Tokyo Disneyland at the end of our trip and the loose silhouette was perfect for my day of trying 7 different flavors of popcorn and eating every Mickey shaped treat I could find. 🥰

Here are the details:

Cost: Cotton sheets were under $5, daisy trim was in a huge bag of trims that I got for a few bucks, and I’ve had the trim for the sleeves for quite awhile (I think I actually got those at an estate sale). All in, let’s call it about 7 dollars worth of materials.

Time / ease of pattern: I didn’t keep track of time, but this is an exceptionally easy pattern to follow and a very forgiving silhouette, so no extra alterations are required.

Piece of Keik episode 26: Keiko Lynn Has Nothing to Wear!!! 🇯🇵 I’ve been planning a family trip to Japan for months, but waited until a few days before our flight to decide that I should make myself a new jacket…instead of doing way more important things.

My mom gave me this vintage comforter to make into something new, since there were several holes and patches and quite a bit of fading. I did some creative cuts and hand-stitched some tears to make the most comfy jacket ever. It’s like wearing bedding outside…because that’s what I’m doing.

I love Japan with my whole entire heart and am so excited to be back. Have you ever been to Japan? What would you like to see while I’m there?

Piece of Keik episode 25: Keiko Lynn’s Ode to Winter.

Consider this an argument for how important the arts are in schools. I have always coped and healed through creation, as long as I can reminder. The arts in many forms were a safe haven at school, and kept me interested in living, learning, and continuing on when I was at my lowest. It still gives me so much peace and satisfaction to create through sewing, makeup, photography, making these videos. Making this series has brought me a lot of joy.

I didn’t intend for this episode to touch on grief, but as I was making this costume and filming the process, I thought of Miku, my little snow princess (Sprincess was one of the 100+ nicknames I had for her) every step of the way. And so the story wrote itself. She was the best good girl to ever grace this Earth. I will never stop missing her. How lucky I was to have her by my side. ❤️

This is a self-made production in every sense, but my narrator Baz Jones always makes it whole. Thank you, Baz, for bringing my script so much warmth and magic.
