This is a city for not sleeping; the clocks are set by feel.
I’m a special kind of night owl. I’m the kind of night owl that rarely leaves its nest at night, and by all means of logic should probably transition to the lifestyle of an early bird. Yet here I am, every single night, up until four or five in the morning. Then it’s off to early morning meetings and breakfast and previews…then back home to work. Then, a little nap. I wake back up and get to work again (or catch up on Weeds). Before I know it, I’m up all night again. This week has been little naps and major headaches, with lots of running about in between. I’m the kind of girl who either sleeps too much or rarely at all. I’m constantly reminded that it’s quite unhealthy, but it’s just the way I work – and here I am complaining about it, even though I kind of like the quiet madness of it all. It peppers my otherwise mundane day-in and day-out with just enough anxiety to make me feel like myself. After all, who am I, if not a mess?
Yesterday, after an hour and a half of sleep, I headed to the Nine West preview at The Standard, went directly to another multi-label preview after that, had lunch with Bobby and then made a stop at the American Living preview. I’ve made a habit out of accepting more invitations, because it keeps me from getting cabin fever and lets me interact with actual people, since I usually just talk to my animals. On top of meeting not one but two people from Coral Springs (small world), I also received a complimentary CND Shellac manicure at the second of the previews, which was both enjoyable and a little embarrassing (my nails were a mess and my cuticles were even worse). It’s supposed to last two weeks, so I’ll report back with the results. If I get through more than a few days, I’ll consider it a success. Manicures never last long on me – maybe because I’m so fidgety and clumsy – hence, my rare foray into the nail salon. Like I said…I’m a mess. But that’s me, and my friends and family love me all the same.
Speaking of messes…I should probably clean this apartment. It looks like a tornado hit Brooklyn again.
