Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Last week, I had breakfast at Tiffany’s.

It just doesn’t get old. “What did you do last week?” “Oh, not much. I had breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

How often does one get to say that, save for people with breakfast loving friends named Tiffany? It was quite a surreal experience, to say the least. I’m a little embarrassed to say that up until last week, I was always a little scared to even enter the store for fear of a Pretty Woman shop experience. I’m that way about all high-end stores, let alone fine jewelry stores – I suddenly become super self aware of how unkempt I must look and feel like everyone is watching me to make sure I don’t steal anything. Of course, that is [usually] not the case. Still, I never dreamed I would be on the receiving end of an invitation to dine at Tiffany & Co. I half expected the doors to be locked, with a plate of pastries and coffee available for us to enjoy while staring at the window displays. Not so. We were greeted warmly by the incredibly kind staff, who had a beautiful dining table set for us in the middle of the store and joined us for delicious food and casual conversation. Naturally, breakfast is their favorite meal of the day and they know how to do it properly. After stuffing ourselves silly, we roamed the store and even tried a few things on. We might have even tricked ourselves into believing we could afford them.

I’m not even a fine jewelry kind of girl (as if I have a choice on my budget) but just being inside the store made me really giddy and enthusiastic about all things sparkly. There is something so magical about it all. I can see why Holly Golightly was so fond of it. On the way out, we were each given a gift bag containing that little box that makes so many hearts go pitter-patter. Breakfast and bangles? How did we get so lucky?
