If these photos look out of season, it’s because they are. I photographed these back in Fall, when MAC sent me a preview of their MAC Rebel Fashion Set and asked me to share my thoughts on the collection and how it correlates to the city I live in, Brooklyn. MAC is the reason I became interested in makeup – it made me view it as an artistic expression rather than a camouflage, as more than just a coat of lipgloss and dab of concealer. Their campaigns were edgier than their peers’, which appealed to my blue-haired and quietly rebellious self. Nine years later and back to brunette, I still feel like I am more suited to their eccentric campaigns than say, a CoverGirl ad. Maybe I came into my own, a bit – I’m not as awkward as that girl with the DIY t-shirts and baby bangs – but I’m still a little offbeat. And okay, my friends would agree that I’m still a little awkward (April calls me “charmingly awkward”) – I’m just better at hiding it in pictures than I am in real life. 
People still have a hard time placing me in a certain compartment, which is something I have come to appreciate. When I was young, all I cared about was fitting in or more likely, blending into the background. At some point I decided that was a bunch of malarkey and went to the opposite end of the spectrum. These days, it’s more about just being myself, even if that person evolves from day to day. That’s what makeup is to me: another form of self expression. I wear my makeup like it’s an accessory meant to be seen.
