Products used (on all three of us!) from left to right: Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner in Perversion (I’m actually wearing Sabbath, which is navy blue), Diorshow Mascara, Too Faced Full Bloom Blush in Sweet Pink, Estee Lauder Fuchsia Velvet Lipstick (I think this was limited edition, but try MAC Girl About Town or Make Up For Ever #36)

I recently took Kim and Kyla over to Bird to try on Warby Parker frames, and Kim was overwhelmed by the idea of picking out glasses. Ever the contacts enthusiast, Kim has had some eye problems in the past and her doctor implored her to wear glasses more often. Since she hasn’t upgraded from her childhood glasses – no, really, they’re actual child’s wire rimmed frames – we decided it was time for her to pick a pair of grown up specs. The only problem? Kim hates glasses. I can’t relate, since I was oddly excited the day I was told I needed them, but the two of us have very different styles. However, I had a feeling that Kim just needed to adjust her outlook with a makeup shake up. We left with a pair of glasses in mind (she favored the Sinclairs), and went home to try on my own glasses and give her a little makeover.

Since she wears intense, bold looks and has a mantra of “more is more is more,” glasses tend to take it too far over the top – even for her. We dialed back the glitter and shimmer and put the focus on opening up her eyes with a thick, bold line along the lash line and bare lower lash line. With bright, flushed cheeks and a bold lip, the look was decidedly very me (we even did the messy bun to drive the point home), but still resonated with Kim’s aesthetic. It’s still more, just dispersed in a different way. The concentrated colors are monochromatic and kept on the cheeks and lips, making it less overwhelming when paired with a thick set of frames, and the thick liner and coats of mascara keep her eyes from disappearing behind the lenses. Proof that this look can be great on many different faces? We also replicated it on her sister, Kyla!

Want to know how to get the classic winged liner? Check out my photo tutorial or head to Look TV for my video tutorial. You can also see my blush tutorial, here. One of my red lip tutorials (here and here) would work for the bright lips – just swap the red for fuchsia or any bold color of your choice!

Do you wear glasses? Would you try this look?

p.s. Kim, Kyla and I are wearing Ray-Ban RB5226, and Warby Parker’s Tenley and Winston frames.
