Makeup Monday: Backstage at Jeremy Scott

One of my favorite parts of fashion week (or perhaps my favorite) is going backstage and watching the magic behind the scenes. The amount of work that goes into a show – which is over in the blink of an eye- is an awe inspiring spectacle. Even the beauty alone takes a tremendous team and massive planning; it’s organized chaos. Multiple hair stylists, makeup artists, and nail techs work on each model to create a custom look for the designer, and I try to document it without getting in the way. Why? So I can recreate it, later – which will be coming in the next post (along with step by step photos).

Kabuki was MAC‘s key artist backstage at Jeremy Scott, and even though I had to jet off a little early to go beauty hunting outside with The Cut, I had the chance to chat with him about the look after the show. He wanted to create a look that was young and rebellious, graphic, and not to be taken too seriously. The result? Neon green, lightning bolts, and magenta lips. “It’s about a woman who’s tired of being a girl and she’s ready for the next step.”

If you’re ready for the next step, check back in about thirty minutes and I’ll have a step by step breakdown of how you can achieve this look at home.
