Makeup(less) Monday: 5 Products That Are Saving My Skin
Halloween makeup is so much fun, but you know what isn’t? Post Halloween skin. I did several full face, theatrical looks with heavy products, and the combination of applying and removing so many thick, highly pigmented products left my skin a little raw and irritated. I gave myself a week without makeup, and am getting a much needed facial at Mario Badescu, this morning, but I have to give credit to some of my favorite products for repairing my skin. Here are five products I’ve been living by:
1) Kracie Hadabisei 3D Facial Mask – I love sheet masks, so when I was in Japan, I made sure to stock up on them. They’re so much cheaper, there! This is my favorite; the seams make it fit your face better than the usual flat ones (hence the “3D” title description). The orange packaging is extra hydrating, which was perfect for my post-travel, dehydrated skin – and even better for post Halloween, when it was both dry and extremely irritated. You can feel your skin soaking up the serum, and it leaves it so soft and supple. Have I ever mentioned that I hate the word supple? But it’s the best description I can think of, at the moment.
2) Bioxidea Miracle 48 Excellence Gold hydrogel mask – This looks like just another sheet mask, but the hydrogel is quite a different experience. The gel melts away as it soaks into your face, and it is the closest feeling to a spa treatment I have come across, yet. The price is steep, so I save these for necessary moments of luxury and extra care. The best part about this is the lack of waste, because the remainder of the mask can be diluted in water, to use as a serum, or melted away in a bath. The gold mask is my favorite, because of its detoxifying qualities (especially for mild breakouts or congested skin), but all of their masks are a treat.
3) Dr. Jart+ Water-Max Sleeping Mask – When my skin feels like it will crack if I make any sort of expression, I slather my face in this sleeping mask. Put this over your serums and moisturizers, and it will help lock everything in. In the winter, I pair this with their Vitalaser 2.1 and it transforms my skin from dry and cracking to baby skin. Once, my friend Eliot accidentally left a clay mask on her face, overnight, and was left with painfully dry, tight skin. I gave her some of the Water-Max Sleeping Mask and she was convinced it was made of magic, because it helped so much.
4) Tatcha Deep Hydration Revitalizing Eye Mask – I’ve been using Tatcha’s blotting sheets, ever since my friend Christine told me about them, but I only recently started trying out their skincare line. It’s too early for me to give a verdict on the rest of the products (though I’m falling in love with their oil cleanser and rice enzyme powder), but these eye masks absolutely saved my swollen, itchy eyes. I’m pretty sensitive to certain cosmetic products, and I generally know what I can and cannot wear. But Halloween came, and I threw caution to the wind, which led to swollen eyes and highly irritated skin. I couldn’t put anything – not eye cream, not regular moisturizer – on my eyes without them stinging. Everything felt like acid. When Tatcha heard about my woes, they sent me these little miracle eye masks, and the swelling rapidly went down, the itching all but vanished. After the initial treatment, I rotated cold cucumbers, chilled brewed teabags, and more eye masks. After a few days of TLC and a week without any makeup, they were finally back to normal. Woohoo!
5) Dr. Jart+ V7 Vitalaser 2.1 – It was a very sad day for me, when Sephora stopped carrying this product – but thank goodness for online shopping! I use it in conjunction with the Water-Max Sleeping Mask, when my skin needs extra moisture. I think of this as more of an ointment than a moisturizer, so it’s not necessary for daily use. I especially love this for treating irritated, chapped skin around my nose – or extra dry patches.
