Invisalign Treatment Update

For those of you who missed my last posts (read those

posts here), I’m currently receiving complimentary Invisalign® treatment in exchange for sharing my experience, once a month.

As of right now, I’m on my 15th set of Invisalign clear aligners, which means I’m

almost halfway to the finish line! During my latest visit, Dr. Zhu told me the

upcoming aligners would start to move my front teeth, and it’s been a noticeable

shift. Up until recently, most of the movement has been in the back and on the

sides, in order to broaden my smile and make room for the overcrowded teeth to

spread out. My checkup was like any other, with only one concern: I didn’t properly

secure my aligners to their attachments! When you first get Invisalign, or if you

don’t have attachments (not everyone does), all you have to do is put the aligners in

and chew on a rubber “gum” piece to make sure they’re completely in place. Once

you have attachments for them to adhere to, you’re supposed to push on them to

lock them in place, like pressing little buttons. I slacked off on that day (and

probably a few others, if I’m being honest), and they immediately noticed. Luckily, it

didn’t seem to cause any setbacks, but the fact that they could tell made me realize

what a big deal it is. Since then, I’ve been extremely diligent, and they are fitting closer to

my teeth. This is a reminder to anyone out there who has gotten a little lax with

their Invisalign clear aligners: there are guidelines for a good reason. Don’t slack off,

or you’ll end up having to extend your treatment!
