VC Signature strappy mary-janes

I know this may come as a surprise to you (this is sarcasm; where is the sarcasm font?), but I love 60s style. I also love just about every decade you can hand to me – at the very least, pieces of it – but the 60s have long held the title for my favorite decade in style. Bring me to a vintage store and I will inevitably grab every scooter dress, every trapeze silhouette, and try and squish my feet into block heeled mary-janes that are never, ever in my size. The best part about 60s mod style is that it’s easy to find modern clothing that evokes the same feeling, only it might actually be size appropriate. I went to a Nordstrom Rack in LA to find some shoes for my 60s vintage trapeze dress – yeah, it’s a lifestyle! – that I was wearing to Vanessa’s wedding, and ended up walking out with everything but shoes for said wedding (I ended up going with a pair I already had). I picked up this slouchy, striped knit dress with rolled hems for a casual go-to in this seasonal transition we’re entering, a structured, light pink Rebecca Minkoff tote, and a pair of strappy mary-janes. Separately, they’re all pretty timeless, but when put together (with a beehive and cat-eye sunglasses, no less), they’re very mod with the graphic black and white stripes and straps that mimic them. If they were actually vintage, the dress might have been a little more structured a-line than slouchy, and the shoes might have had a lower heel, but I was going for vintage-inspired 60s style, not 100% retro. Although, let’s be honest: I love the latter, too. Who am I kidding?
