I have a confession: I don’t remember the last time I bought my own razor. In fact, I think the only time I’ve ever bought them in the last eight years (read: since Bobby and I have been together) was when I forgot to steal Bobby’s razor, while going on a solo trip. I mean…when I very kindly left his razor with him, so he wouldn’t be without (wink wink). On those rare occasions, I’d end up buying a cheap, disposable razor at the nearest drugstore, on mere principle of not wanting to spend a small fortune on what I can easily steal from my generous boyfriend. This would inevitably lead to nicks, or sometimes full on scrapes on my shins and knees, reminding me that maybe I wasn’t just really bad at shaving, when I was a teen. Maybe it was because my mom always bought those same razors — you know, the ones that simultaneously fail to rid your legs of hair, but somehow remove all of their skin? Yeah, they’re the worst. Side note: my sister still buys a decent razor for my mom every year, in a half joking, half please-stop-using-those-horrible-torture-devices kind of way.

Long story short (or not), I now officially have my own razor. Two, actually! I guess you can call me a grown-up, now. Dollar Shave Club was one of our generous gift bag sponsors at our Brooklyn Brigade flower crown workshop, and since we had a couple of extras of the 4X, I took one and made it my own. I also swiped a travel size Shave Butter, since my friend Kristin was raving about it. It’s SO much better than shaving cream, and since it’s travel size, it went right into my carry-on, along with my brand new razor and extra blades. They recently sent me a full size Shave Butter and a razor that’s a step up from the 4X, called The Executive (pictured), which has 6 blades instead of 4. Now, clearly I didn’t have to buy these initial razors, since I swiped one from my workshop and they sent me the other one, but I will be buying their cartridge refills, 100%. It’s a subscription service with three tiers: twin blade with 5 cartridges for $1 a month plus $2 shipping, four blade with four cartridges for $6 including shipping, and six blade with four cartridges for $9 including shipping. You can also do every other month, if you don’t need all the extra refills. Yes, it’s geared toward men, but what is the difference? I wouldn’t know, since I exclusively use men’s razors. Look, I photographed it by a bouquet of roses and a retro telephone. Does that make it seem more feminine?

Anyway, to be honest, I’m totally content with the smaller, cheaper one with four blades. I only plan on doing every other month, which will end up costing me a whopping $3 a month. And since I don’t need two, I’m giving the six blade to Bobby. What can I say? I’m feeling generous;)
