Haunted Mansion Portraits: Is This Haunted Room Actually Stretching?
Haunted Mansion Portraits
Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion! Our tour begins here in this gallery, where you see paintings of some of our guests as they appeared in their corruptible, mortal state. Is this haunted room actually stretching, or is it your imagination? Watch the video to see them in action.
The Haunted Mansion has been one of my favorite rides at Disney World and Disneyland, ever since I was a kid. I was always fascinated by the Haunted Mansion portraits — particularly the stretching portraits that greet you at the beginning of the ride. The girl with the parasol stretches to reveal that she’s on a fraying tightrope above an alligator, the stately man is standing on a barrel of dynamite, the friendly looking widow is sitting on her husband’s grave, with an axe in his head, and the smug looking guy with his arms crossed? He and his friends are sinking into quicksand.
This Halloween, I wanted to do things a little differently. Instead of doing 13 costumes (as I did last year), I wanted to focus on recreating a series of the Haunted Mansion portraits at Brooklyn Brigade. I still have a couple of treats coming for you, but I’m so excited to share the final portraits with you. My dear friend Erin Solari collaborated with my sister and me on the sets, and Bobby, Denny, and Caleb (and myself, naturally) were my models. All photos and composites are done by me. Check out all of our Haunted Mansion stretching portraits and let me know what you think! And please, share them with friends, through Pinterest, or on your social media with #keikoheartshalloween. Happy Halloween!
