I am really infrequent with color touchups, when it comes to my hair. Last time, I went to someone new and they gave me something very permanent that I wasn’t crazy about. And like I do every Winter, I put off getting it touched up (or in this case, changed) forever and ever. That is, until I started working with Wella Professional and they offered to have Alexandra at Muze Salon color my hair. Look, I am not going to turn down a complimentary opportunity to go to a top colorist! And my hair color was looking pretty sad, despite the fresh new cut.
One minute with Alexandra and I knew she got me. She pointed to the line between my natural base and the dull, flat, unnatural violet-tinged brown that hung below and knew how long it had been since it was colored (six months), told me she thought we should stray from the cooler-toned, unnatural hue (phew!) and bring it closer to my natural color. Only better and with more dimension, something that would melt into my natural color. She kept my base color and painted in soft highlights throughout my hair to blend the colors without having to do anything too drastic, and I can’t believe what a difference it made. I never get highlights because I associate them with blonde hair or that late 90s / early 2000s chunky striped brown and blonde, but this looks like a sun-kissed version of my natural hair, and I’ve been loving it. It has so much more dimension!
Since the part that was colored was dry and brittle, she used Wellaplex to strengthen and stabilize my hair. While this is was a part of the coloring process, you can also get Wellaplex as a stand-alone service to keep your hair soft, strong, and resilient (search for a salon here). The feeling was night and day, and I’m now using their Wellaplex No3 Hair Stabilizer once a week to keep my hair strong, smooth, and soft until my next service.
So, what do you think of my new color? It’s kind of fun for me to go lighter for Spring/Summer, since I almost always go darker. Also, I’m working on some new hair tutorials with Wella, so leave a comment below if you have any requests!
