When I was younger, I wasĀ obsessedĀ with the 50s. It was heavily influenced byĀ I Love Lucy,Ā which I watched religiously (still do…seriously just watched 5 episodes tonight),Ā Grease,Ā and 50s prom dresses at the local antique mall where my mom once had a booth. I suppose that’s where my love for cat-eye glasses came from (and scarves, come to think of it), but the funny thing is that the 50s nipped in waist is one of my least worn silhouettes, and at some point I crept on in to the 60s and planted my feet. I have a short torso and my waist isn’t particularly defined, so that gorgeous 50s New Look was never a go-to for me. You know me, I’m normally all about a shapeless mini — but I’m also not married to just one way of dressing or one era. Here’s how this one happened: I was recently given these amazing shoes from Korean shoe designer Juliet RobotĀ and loved them with this gingham skirt, and wanted to dress it down a bit with a t-shirt. Next thing you know, I look like I’m auditioning for a local production ofĀ Grease, and I’m okay with it. I’d like to go a little moreĀ I Love Lucy, next time — that one tulle dress over pants she wears in several episodes is something that forever left its mark on me! — but I’m quite happily and hopelessly devoted to this getup, regardless. See what I did, there?
