I barely shopped at all, over the summer. But when Fall hit, I realized my wardrobe has two speeds: Summer and Winter. And really, it seems like I just throw a winter coat over my summer clothes and call it a day. I knew I needed to get a handful of pieces to bring me into Fall, so I did a little online shopping. I often search the finds under $200 section of Shopbop and my go-to brand, Madewell, when I’m looking for a new piece to add to my wardrobe, or the always handy asos — which is actually where I got this cardigan. But on this particular day, I went to Christy Dawn’s website to see if they had any cotton dresses that could be brought into Fall, and I found this dress. Done. Made out of deadstock cotton and produced in Los Angeles (they even show you a picture and bio of your dressmaker), it’s obviously going to be a little pricier than your average mall brand. But if you can afford it, it’s nice to support a smaller brand who is actively trying to do better in the fashion world: reducing waste, paying fair wages, and being transparent about their practices. All of those things come at a premium that the average consumer doesn’t want to or simply cannot pay, hence my disclaimer. If you’re looking for a special piece and have a little extra money to spend, check out Christy Dawn! This particular dress was on the lower end (under $200), and I would definitely buy it in another pattern.
