Face: Dr. Jart+ Premium BB Beauty Balm, NARS concealer. Cheeks are NARS Deep Throat with Charlotte Tilbury Film Star bronze and glow.

Originally, I was truly just posting these photos (outtakes from a recent project) to remind myself that a bold blue eye can be so much fun — and to mark the occasion of being a small part of the Disney Wish promo! But then I started thinking about the evolution of my signature makeup style, and I started going through old blog photos and got a little nostalgic.

I find myself doing my regular liner and lashes most of the time, if I’m wearing eye makeup at all (pandemic!) but every time I do a bold eyeshadow, I remember how much it can completely transform a look. I added the gold halo as a nod to the new Disney Wish cruise ship — you can see how I created this look on the Disney Parks blog or watch the video here (my tutorial starts at 2:50)! Every time I work with Disney is a total dream.

The evolution of my signature eye makeup style

In thinking about the evolution of my signature makeup style, I realized that I recently came back to a couple of old go-tos and tweaked them to fit my current aesthetic. Back when I was a scene girl (as one was in the early aughts), I did a smoky eye on the daily, and would often add some blue or purple on my lower lash line to make it pop. My photos on here only go back to 2006, but I continued a smoky signature eye makeup (usually a little severe and elongated, the edges not quite blended properly) as my go-to look.

I started playing with other colors (browns, blues, greens, purples) because experimenting makeup was such a huge part of the early blog days.

If I did just liner, it usually involved continuing it to the lower lash and waterline. I was big on MAC’s fluidline back then.

Wow, that was a thin brow. But as you can see, I always enjoyed playing with color and different tones: cooler on the left, warmer on the right. But somehow I didn’t discover false lashes until much later. Which is such a shame, because I do love my fake lashes!

Nowadays, I’m more a liner and lashes kind of girl — although in the past year I’ve often been forgoing eye makeup altogether because again, pandemic — but every once in awhile it’s fun to play with colorful shadows and experiment with new looks.

I brought back some color into my life, but added in graphic liner and lashes. Sometimes, even lower lashes. Makeup can be so much fun. Thanks for taking a trip down memory lane with me!
