Halloween Couples Costume Idea: Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz on their Wedding Day

I have wanted to do Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz costumes for as long as I can remember. However, each year, I just run out of time. I also considered saving them for an entire Tim Burton series, but who says I can’t just revisit that idea at a later date? We put these looks together for an early Halloween shoot, and I was really happy with how they turned out. Read below to see everything I used for these looks, and follow me on instagram and tiktok to see exactly how it came together, along with exclusive videos.

I bought the vintage red lace dress on eBay, a few yards of tulle at Joann Fabrics, and the wig is a 2 part process. I bought this wavy wig ($15) and added this clip in ponytail ($14) on top. It’s perfect because it has bendable wires to make the pony stand up in a few different places. I cut the bangs and styled them with gel to get the classic Lydia Deetz look. The red gloves are also from Amazon and are still available. I’ve worn them for so many costumes!

While there are lots costume pieces available, I always prefer putting my own spin on it with second hand pieces, pieces from my closet, affordable separates I can wear again, or clothing I make. Here are some great options for putting together your Lydia Deetz costume!

Bobby’s Beetlejuice costume consisted of this suit from Amazon, a vintage dickey and bow tie, and lots of makeup and a wig. He even put some food coloring on his teeth. He was very committed!

We applied a bald cap to give him a receding hairline, spray painted a lace front white wig with some green hair spray, thinned it out and teased it, and then added some liquid latex around the bald cap and on his face and neck to make his skin look decayed and crusty.

I used my holy grail of white artistry foundations: KVD Lock it in 40 near white, with matching concealer and powder. The eyes were done with Urban Decay ultraviolet palette. The greens are from this great face and body cream paint palette.

Tip for the wig: if it comes pre-styled, use a steamer to remove the curls or waves. Then, style it yourself.

Once our costumes were finished, we headed to a local woodsy area for our wedding portraits. We added some fog for a little extra bit of spooky. You can create this with a fog machine or canned atmosphere.
