Pastel Christmas Decor with Homegoods
Last year, I picked up a few pastel Christmas pieces from HomeGoods with the intention of decorating our room. I always go with a more traditional red and green in the living room area, but I love pink and other pastels for Christmas decor — so a mini Christmas makeover in our already pink room felt like a good compromise.
But of course, I ended up dropping the ball and never got around to it.
I got those two pastel, retro deer figurines (which were a major hit and had people searching all over the country in their local HomeGoods!) and the gorgeous gingerbread house. But they ended up living among the more traditional decor in the living room.
There’s really no excuse, since it all goes so well with our current decor.
So this year, it was the first space to be decorated! It took about an hour total, with most of my time spent covering all of my books and “ghosty gals” in festive wrapping paper and bows. Anything I didn’t keep out, I stored temporarily in Christmas storage boxes and wrapped in wrapping paper under the tree — or hid them in my vintage suitcase on top of the dresser.
That’s the trouble, isn’t it? In a small apartment, there’s only so much room for storage. So I have to get creative not only with how I decorate, but how I store anything that is replaced with a decoration. For Christmas, it ends up being an easy win because the storage turns into a decoration of its own.
In addition to my pastel deer and gingerbread house, I moved my stuffed reindeer into the room and found some great new pieces at my local HomeGoods: an opalescent tree light, a retro pink Christmas tree, an adorable vintage inspired radio that plays cute Christmas stations, and a pastel tree to sit amongst my head vases. I’ve since added a pastel nutcracker and some twinkle lights and it feels so cozy and festive. I love it. Next year, I might even add a small pink tree!
