I’m sorry I’ve been absent. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have had a head’s up — I mentioned on my stories that I needed to take some time to deal with personal issues. 2019 has been quite a mess of heartache, but after a week with family I’m feeling much more like myself. And these photos of Miku and me remind me of a very good day. A calm in the storm. More days like these, please!
My fishnet bow socks are about as practical as my glittery star socks, but they’re certainly the cutest ones I own. Besides, I wouldn’t exactly describe my style as “practical” — even though I’ve been wearing jeans and t-shirts much more these days. The animal hospital isn’t exactly the place where I want to dress up.
That’s the thing about dressing up, though. It’s like a form of escape. The old adage, “Look good, feel good” is true, at least in my personal experience. I started feeling a bit better from the first day I did my hair and put on some lipstick, wore more than just my tattered, second hand jeans and a loose thrift store t-shirt.
If you’ve been following me from the beginning, you may remember that I started this as a way to hold myself accountable. I was working from home, fighting depression in my isolation, and wore nothing but pajamas and pajama-like clothing on a daily basis. By getting dressed like a normal human being, it made me feel like going outside of my apartment. It made me feel more awake, somehow happier, and I decided to document my daily outfits to keep myself on track. It eventually evolved far beyond that, but the sentiment remains. So, today I’m getting dressed. I might even put on some lipstick. It’s just a personal preference…it makes me feel better. And I just want to feel better.
