Save for my shorter hair days, the messy bun has always been my go-to hairstyle. I live by the “embrace messy hair” mentality, and love that this takes no time. I think it’s safe to say that the messy bun and head scarf combo (you can also watch the how to tie a head scarf tutorials) are a signature look for me, and the two are my most requested tutorials. So many of you have been asking for an updated messy bun tutorial, so I hope this will help you!
If you have fine hair like me, a little loose backcombing with a brush (not a comb) can work wonders for giving more volume without having to rely on extra product. The reason I use the brush instead of a comb is because it’s quicker, creates looser volume, and eliminates one more thing that I’d have to use. If you have thicker hair, you can skip that step completely. The whole point of this messy bun tutorial is that this is easy to do for every day — just throw it up and go! I highly recommend using a working hairspray like the Alterna Haircare Caviar Working Hairspray, so it isn’t too stiff. Don’t worry about making it too polished, but if it gets too unruly for your taste, remember that you can always finish it off with a head scarf🙂
